Mrs. Betty Marie Hall Stephens, 86, died January 2, 2009. A native of Chipley, Florida, Mrs. Stephens has resided in Gainesville, Georgia for the past 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband E.L. Stephens. Survivors include her children, Dan and Wanda Stephens of Rogersville, Tennessee, David and Nodya Havice, Gainesville, Georgia and Joe and LeAnne Stephens, Sebring, Florida. Grandchildren: Rebekah Beccue and Judith Brock both of Gainesville, Ga. Tricia Sealy of Winter Haven, Florida and B.J. Stephens of Oralndo, Florida. Evelyn C. Davidson, 83 Chipley, Florida/Evelyn C. Davidson, 83, of Winter Haven, Fl., went to be with our Lord on Dec. 28, 2008 in the Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Fl., as the result of complications after a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband Fritz Davidson. She is survived by one daughter, Rose Gipson of Chipley, Fl., two grandchildren, Jerry Gipson of Vernon, Fl., and Debra Gipson of Panama City, Fl., two great grandchildren, Samantha Gipson and Stephanie Gipson, both of Vernon: one sister, Doris Overbey of Gulf Breeze, Fl., and numerous nieces, nephews, cousings, and friends. Marguerite (Hudnall) Fielding, 94, of Chipley, Florida passed from this life on  Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 in Chipley, Florida. Mrs. Fielding was born on June 2, 1914 in St. Augustine, Florida to Robert L. and Hattie (Salana) Hudnall. She had resided in Chipley, Florida since the 1980’s coming from Hollywood, Florida. Survivors include Two Sons: Marwin Hallford, Fayetteville, Georgia and Gary Hallford, Panama City Beach, Florida. One Daughter: Marlene Fogle, Farburn, Georgia. One Step-Daughter: Carlene Manville, Eaton, Georgia. 8 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Fielding, a daughter, Doris Johns, and a sister, Esther Melvin . Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Pletcher officiating. Mrs. Audrey Lee Rogers, age 62, of Bonifay, FL passed away December 21, 2008 at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay.  She was born October 13, 1946 in Bonifay, Florida.  Mrs. Rogers is preceded in death by her father, Monroe Lee; mother, Malzie Garner Lee Whittaker; husband, Lonnie Rogers; stepdaughter, Baby Rogers.  She is survived by two sons, Joey Rogers & wife, Angie of Bonifay, FL and Charlie Rogers and wife, Candace of Bonifay, FL; two daughters, Sharon Hopkins of Bonifay, FL and Ellen Gipson and husband, Tony of DeFuniak Springs, FL; stepchildren, Gail Alford & husband, Tony of DeFuniak Springs, FL and Michael Rogers of Houston, TX; one brother, James Lee and wife, Catherine of Bonifay, FL; one sister, Johnnie Mae Collins of Bonifay, FL; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.  Services were 11:00 AM Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Union Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Pansy Mae Hayes, 92, of Graceville, Florida passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at North Florida Community Hospital. She was born November 6, 1916 in Cottondale, Fl to William M. Christmas and Vianna Kittrell. Mrs. Hayes was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal faith. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband Grover Lee Hayes and one daughter: Quida Atkinson. She was survived by Jackie Hayes and wife Wanda of Nashville, Tenn. One daughter: Angela and husband Byron Richter of Graceville, Fl, one brother: G. D. Yon and wife Frances of Marianna, Fl, four grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Services will be held 11:00a.m. Monday, December 22,2008 at Lovewood Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. David Wyatt Kelley Sr., passed from this life on December 15, 2008 at the Washington County Rehab and nursing in Chipley Mr Kelley was a life long resident of Washington County and of the Southern Baptist faith . Irma Pennington, 91, of Chipley, Florida passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 Washington Rehab and Nursing Home. She was born April 28, 1917 in Wausau, Fl to Robert E. Simmons and Fannie Jones. Mrs. Pennington was a Seamstress at Holmes Factory. She was of the Methodist Faith and a member of the Wausau United Methodist. Mrs. Pennington was a lifelong resident of Chipley, Fl and a member of the Eastern Star. She preceded in death by her husband Oscar Pennington, two sons: Lamar and Virgil Pennington. She was survived by one son: Jimmy Pennington and wife Alice of Green Cove Springs, Fl, two brothers: Grant Simmons of Marianna, Fl, and Rev. Elton Simmons of Lakeland, Fl, two grandchildren: Jimmy Jr. Pennington and Kevin Pennington. Services will be held 10:00a.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 at Wausau United Methodist Church with Rev. Troy Lee Walsingham and Rev. Dalton Ott officiating. Interment will follow at Wausau Memorial Garden with Brown Funeral Home directing. James (Buck) R. Owens, age 63, passed from this life Friday, November 28, 2008 at his home. He was born in South Port, Fl. on August 25, 1945 to James and Leana (Quick) Owens. Mr. Owens worked as a logger for Bernie Finch and has lived here for the past 12 years coming from South Port, Fl. He was a member of the Wausau Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Owens was survived by his 4 sons, James Owens, Mark Owens, David Owens, and Michael Owens. 2 Daughters, Ranee Owens and Michelle Owens. 3 sisters, Willie Douglas, Doris Mastro, and Margaret Bilek, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held 11am Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Wausau Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. James Bardwhick officiating. Terence John Ruddy Jr., 74, of Chipley, Florida passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He was born October 1, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Terence Ruddy Sr. and Josephine McQuigan. He lived in Chipley, Florida for 13 years coming from New Jersey. He worked with Jersey City Fire Department and a Korean War veteran in the U.S. Army. Mr. Ruddy was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the retired Benevolence committee. And served 25 years Jersey City Fire Dept., retired as Captain and was a  E.O.D. Specialist. He was survived by his wife Veronica Ruddy, one son: Terence Patrick Ruddy III of Chrystal Lake, Fl., two daughters: Maureen Destesano of Bayonne, New Jersey and Erin Manberk of Crestview, Fl and one Brother: Thomas Ruddy. Services will be held 11:00a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at St Joseph Catholic Church with Father Sean Knox officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Sunny Hills Florida with Brown Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00a.m.at St Joseph.

Smith and Nettie Toole. She worked for her self in child care. Mrs. Worthington has lived here 25 years coming from Chattahoochee, Fl. She was of the Assembly of God faith and a member of the Grace Assembly of God in Chipley Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents Willis and Nettie Smith. She was survived by two sons: William and wife Denise Worthington of Grandridge, Fl and Edward and wife Kristi Worthington of Milton, Fl, one brother: Wallace Smith of Tallahassee, Fl. five sisters: Dale Bagdonas of Danville, Ca., Mary Dornan of Chipley, Fl, Margaret Hicks of Milton, Fl, Delora Haddan of Chipley, Fl, and Debbie Williams of Milton, Fl, and seven grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Service’s will be held 2:00p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Grace Assembly in Chipley, Fl with Rev. Dallas Pettis and Rev. Juno Douglas officiating. T. “Buddy” Cook, Graceville, Florida. 3 Sisters: Letha Kolmetz, Graceville, Florida, Ruth Taylor Chipley, Florida, and Molly Rustin, Graceville, Florida. 5 Grandchildren: Jason Crutchfield, Megan Crutchfield, Tyler Crutchfield, Catherine Lamb, and Raina Tate. 2 Great Grandchildren: Aydan Tate and Jaxon Tate. Michael R. Strickland Jr. age 37 of  Chipley passed from this life on December 8 2008 Michael was born on August 23rd 1971 in Dothan Alabama to Michael and Linda Tucker Strickland he has resided all his life in Washington County he worked in many construction jobs his last being at the Lewis Bear company in Ebro Fla. Michael is a member of the Blue Lake Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother and her husband Linda carol and Sam Hagan of Chipley his grandmother Marilyn Strickland one brother Jeffrey and wife Wendy, of Chipley one Sister Katrina and husband Blake Barfield of Wausau, Fla. two nephews Tucker and Elliott Barfield of Wausau he is also survived by numerous Uncles and Aunts. He is Preceded in death by his Dad Michael R. Strickland Sr. and his grandfather Albert Strickland and also Grandparents Ralph and Louise Tucker. Funeral services will be held Thursday Dec. 11 at 2; 00 P. M. at Blue Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Anna F. Dailey, 77, of Chipley, Florida passed from this life on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in Chipley, Florida. Mrs. Dailey was born June 13, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to Floyd and Virgu L. (Hall) Walls. She is preceded in death by her husband James M. Dailey , a son James A. Dailey and a daughter Karen Lee Dailey. Survivors are Two Sons: Kenneth R. Dailey, Panama City, Fl. and Stephen B. Dailey, Chipley, Florida. One Daughter: Teri Holcomb, Chipley, Florida. 6 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Margaret Peak, 70, of Chipley, Florida passed from this life on  Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 in Chipley, Florida.  Mrs. Peak was  born on March 22, 1938 in Albany, Georgia to Geroge and Rozell Barfield. She was preceded in death by her husband James Peak and a brother George Barfield.  Survivors include the Father of  her children Willie B. Barfield, Albany, Gerogia. Mr. Griffin was born on May 28, 1924 in Washington County, Florida to Paniel and Fynetty (Lloyd) Griffin. He was of the Prostestant faith. He was a member of the Masons. He is preceded in death by his parents and one  brother Sam Griffin. He is survived by his wife of  55 years Tressie Mae (Joyner) Griffin, Chipley, Florida. Three Sons: James Lee Griffin, Sunnyhills, Florida, Belcher and wife Nancy Griffin, Dothan, Ala. and Travis and wife Carol Griffin, Sunnyhills, Florida. Seven Grandchildren: Tiffany Nembach, Teri Nembach, Brice Nembach, Justin Griffin, Jarred Griffin, Wesley Griffin, and Cara Griffin. Three Great Grandchildren: Dillon Johnson, Landon Johnson and Rayce Griffin. Mrs. Amanda ‘ Mandy’  Kirkland Johnson, age 87, of Bonifay, FL passed away December 1, 2008 at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay.  She was born January 21, 1921 in Black, AL to James Noah and Luneta Quattlebaum Kirkland.  Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stratten Johnson, Sr.; two sons, Stratton ‘Junior’ Johnson, Jr. and Jerry Johnson Sr.; one daughter, Katie Yates; three brothers, Dewey Kirkland, James ‘Buzz’ Kirkland, Ray Kirkland.  She is survived by her husband, James ‘Jake’ Marell of Bonifay, FL; one son, Mitch Johnson & wife, Barbara of Bonifay, FL; one daughter, Kathy Dozier & husband, Bill of New Hope, FL; one step-son, Roger Marell & wife, Letha of Bonifay, FL; one step-daughter, Wanda Langford of Bonifay, FL; one sister, Juanita Messer of GA; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.  Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Winterville Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tommy Moore, Brother John Allen and Rev. Bobby Thompson.  Interment will follow in the Steverson Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay, FL directing.

 

 

Boyd Joiner, 84, passed away at his home Sunday, November 30, 2008. He was born February 6, 1924 in Skipper Ville, Alabama to Andy Joiner and Susie Roberts. Mr. Joiner was a welder by trade and has lived in Chipley since 1932 coming here from Alabama. He is of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the Faith Covenant Church. He is survived by his wife Pauline Joiner of Chipley, Fl., One son: Steve Allen Joiner of Chipley, Fl., Two daughters: Mildred Ellen Joiner  and Dorothy Joiner Gilbert and husband Wade both of Chipley, Fl., one special niece Carolyn Riley and several other nieces and nephews, two grandchild: Justin Guettler and wife Summer and Nic Guettler and one great grandchildren: Athan Guettler. Services will be held 2:00p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Brown Funeral Home, Brickyard road Chapel with Rev. Cloys Joiner and Rev. James Carnley officiating and Brown Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Brickyard Chapel. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

   

 

Mrs. Doris Champion Pitts, age 70, of Bonifay, Florida passed away November 27, 2008 at her home.  She was born February 7, 1938 in Geneva, Alabama to the late Barney and Annie Burton Stuckey Worthey.  Mrs. Pitts is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dwight Williams; one granddaughter, Crystal Vrooman.  She is survived by two sons, Jerry Williams and Ronnie Weeks both of Bonifay, FL; five daughters, Linda Strahan and husband, Lonnie of Bonifay, FL, Judy Patillo and husband, Horace of Bonifay, FL, Donna Weeks and husband, Tommy of Ashford, AL, Connie Wells and husband, Greg of Esto, FL, Tammy Mullinax of Bonifay, FL; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  Services were 1:00 PM Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Amazing Grace Church with Rev. Bobby Tidwell and Rev. Mitch Johnson officiating.  Interment followed in the Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay, FL directing. 

 

 

 

Mrs. Eula Lee Ross Barden, age 90, of Bonifay, Florida passed away November 23, 2008 at Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born March 26, 1918 in Bonifay, Florida to Jesse Victor and Martha Elizabeth Carson Ross. Mrs. Barden was the valedictorian of the Holmes County High School Class of 1936. She was a member of First Baptist Church Bonifay since 1933 where she served many years as church clerk and was very active in the WMU. She was co-owner of Evans of Bonifay. She was a member of the Bonifay Garden Club and was chairman for the Bonifay City Cemetery from 1992 to 2007. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross. Mrs. Barden is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wade Ross and Roland Ross; two sisters, Mae Stokes and Edith Hagans. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Maston Barden of Bonifay, FL; two brothers-in-law, Millard Barden and wife, Lucile of Union Grove, AL and Claude Barden and wife, Suzanne of Lexington, SC; two sisters-in-law, Anne Whitehurst and husband, Lonnie of Columbus, GA and Grace Atkinson of Tallahassee, FL; ten nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. Services were 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at First Baptist Church Bonifay with Rev. Shelly Chandler and Rev. Jeep Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonifay City Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay, FL directing. Mr. Mercer was born on January 22, 1931 in Wausau, Florida  to  Brown  and Vera Lucy (Owens) Mercer. He is survived by his wife Mary Mercer, Wausau, Florida. Mr. Shelton Ray Grantham, age 92, of Bonifay, FL passed away November 23, 2008 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL.  He was born December 17, 1915 in Hartford, AL to Mazelion and Bertia Threett Grantham.  Mr. Grantham is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Russell Grantham; one sister, Dorthy Bates.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lasceener Barbee Grantham of Bonifay, FL; one sister, Dois Shumate of Columbus, GA; several nieces and nephews.  Services were 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Poplar Head Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis H. Wade, 70, of  Greenhead, Florida passed from this life on Sunday, November 16, 2008  at his home in Greenhead, Florida.  Mr. Wade was born on October 23, 1938 in Mansfield, Ohio to Wilbur and Irma (Farrar) Wade. He had resided in Chipley for the past 19 years coming from Riverview, Florida. He was a retired  truck driver. He is survived by his wife: Carol Wade, Greenhead, Florida. Two Sons: Randy Wade and wife Laura, Debary, Florida and Timothy Wade, Panama City, Florida. One Daughter: Rebecca LaFlamme and husband Phil, Deltona, Florida. One Brother: Larry Wade, Mansfield, Ohio. Four Grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1:00 P.M. Ouida Ruth (Justice) Cook, age 78, passed from this life on November 15, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Lake Worth, Fl. Her parents are the late Lillian and Iverson Justice. Ouida, a long time resident of Vernon, Fl., was a faithful member of the Abbegail Freewill Baptist Church. She also had a great affection for her association with the Order of the Eastern Star, and her hobbies included sewing and quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband Theron H. Cook, Sr. Ouida, a loving and dedicated mother, is survived by her 4 children, Theron Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fl; Sharon of Davie, Fl; Carlton of Tallahassee, Fl; and Nancy of Lake Worth, Fl; 1 sister, Betty Jane Hasty of Mobile, Al; 5 grandchildren, Gary, Mindy, Christopher, Jennifer, and Alexandra; and 5 great grandchildren, Madison, Amber, Kennedy, Steven, and Grant. Mary Nell Hinson, 69, of Chipley, Florida passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Southeast Medical Center. She was born November 11, 1939 in Washington County to Andrew Berry Bush and Jahaza Porter. Mrs. Hinson was a school bus driver for Washington County Schools. She was a member of the Orange Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Lynn Hinson. She was survived by her husband Leonard F. Hinson Sr. of Chipley, Fl., One Son: Francis Hinson and wife Abby of Chipley, Fl., Two sister’s: Martha Jean Sellers of Bonifay, Fl. and Frankie Rose Justice of Slocomb, Al. and three  grandchildren. Charles Samuel Eskew, 71, of Bonifay, Florida  passed  from this life on Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008 in Panama City, Florida.  He was a native of South Carolina and had resided in Bonifay, Florida for the last 10 years. He was a supervisor and retired from this Dan Rivers Corporation. He was of the Baptist Faith. He is survived by One Daughter: Rita Davis, Bonifay, Florida. One Brother: Henry Eskew, Jr. and wife Florence, Pelcer, South Carolina. One Sister: Joyce and husband Tommy Brown, Williamston, South Carolina. One Granddaughter: Kayla Davis, Bonifay, Florida. He was preceded in death by a son Mack Eskew, one brother Bobby Eskew, and one sister Linda Cooper. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Northside  Assembly of God in Bonifay, Fl. with the Rev. Ed Bell officiating. Mr. Harold I. Shepherd, age 85, of Bonifay, FL passed away November 8, 2008 at Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center.  He was born July 28, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio to Ronald L. and Olive Mae Shepherd.  Mr. Shepherd is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lena Mae Bregar Shepherd.  Mr. Shephard served during WWII in the United States Army Air Force.  Memorialization by cremation with burial in the Esto Community Cemetery.  Peel Funeral Home of Bonifay, FL directing.

 

 

Mrs. Myrtle Pate Forehand, age 95, of Bonifay, FL passed away November 10, 2008 at Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center.  She was born June 25, 1913 in Bonifay, FL to Alex and Camella Davis Pate.  Mrs. Forehand is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hezzie Forehand; one son Ralph Forehand; one grandson, Rodney Forehand; three brothers, Horace, Hurtis and Roy Pate.  She is survived by one son, Bob Hezzie Forehand Jr. and wife, Frances of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Bernice Forehand Mitchem of Bonifay, FL and Wynelle Forehand Steele and husband, Richard of Bonifay, FL; nine grandchildren, Lynn Lance, Ron Verhine, Mike Steele, Debbie Hall, Joe Clark, Kim Tidwell, Linda Blanchard, Don Verhine, Rickey Forehand; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.  Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Peel Funeral Home Chapel Bonifay with Rev. Betty Jean Johnson Brock, 82, of Chipley, Florida, passed from this life on Saturday, November 8, 2008. She was born April 6, 1926 in Cottondale, Florida, the youngest of nine children born to Angus O. Johnson, Sr. and Emma Cutchens Johnson. She graduated from Cottondale High School in 1945 and owned and operated Betty’s Flowers in Chipley for many years. She was a Baptist by faith and a member of the New Orange Baptist Church. She was preceded by her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters, a daughter, Carole Hawk and her husband Kenneth Hawk, and son-in-law, James Rogers. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Alcus R. Brock, one daughter, Yvonne Carmichael and husband Earl, one son, David Brock and wife Trish, all of Chipley, Fl., one sister, Eula Mae Dilmore of Gulf Breeze, Fl. 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11am Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Brown Funeral Home Brickyard Road Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Gainer and the Rev. Trent Gann officiating.
