Girl Scout Project Highlights Florida Panhandle
Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle go viral to help Florida economy and tourism.
Wednesday July 21st, 2010
Tallahassee, FL – The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has created a deep impact on the Florida Panhandle’s economy and tourism. Girl Scouts from across the Florida Panhandle have gone viral with a series of videos aimed at places to visit in the Panhandle- in addition to the beautiful beaches. The videos are currently available to view on the GSCFP YouTube Channel, www.youtube.com/gscfp.
All videos were created, produced, and directed by Florida Girl Scouts; which encompasses the three processes of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE): Girl-Led, cooperative learning, and learning by doing. The three processes of the GSLE are accomplished by the three keys to Girl Scouting: Discover, Connect and Take Action. Girls discovered a problem in their community, connected with an idea of how to help the community, and took action by producing short videos about Florida and why people should visit.
“The oil spill has affected every Girl Scout in one way or another,” said Victoria Adams, Adult Development Manager. “These viral videos give Girl Scouts an opportunity to use their voices to make a positive impact on their community.”
The Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle invites girls from kindergarten to twelfth grade, to join the adventure and empower themselves through courage, confidence and character, to make the world a better place. Currently, the council serves 7,150 girls and 2,400 volunteers across 19 counties of the Florida Panhandle. To volunteer or join Girl Scouts, contact the local council office at (850) 873-3999 or visit www.gscfp.org. The Girl Scout Council of the Florida Panhandle is a United Way Agency.
