If you are looking for a job and have a dependent eighteen years of age or under living in your household you may be able to find employment through the Florida Back to Work program. Florida Back to Work is open to Florida residents with a household income of less than two hundred percent of the poverty level with a dependent eighteen or younger living in the household.
The Chipola Regional Workforce Development Board had over ninety employers in five counties sign up with several hundred jobs under the Florida Back to Work program. These employers are willing to hire individuals qualified for the program in a variety of jobs.
The CRWDB currently expects employers to be able to hire individuals beginning around February 15; however it is possible this date could be pushed back closer to the end of the month according to Richard Williams, Executive Director of the Chipola Regional Workforce Development Board.
“There was a tremendous response to this program all across the state and as such it takes time to be able to move to the next step,” Williams said. “Our intent is to move forward as fast as we are allowed and we encourage people to come in now to be qualified so they will be available for interviews as soon as the program allows. People that wait until later may find that the job they would have been perfect for already filled.”
Individuals determined qualified for the program are not guaranteed a job; however, those in the program will be given an opportunity to interview with employers for jobs open only to those qualified for Florida Back to Work. It will be up to the employer to make a job offer and the individual to accept. Wages will be paid by the employer and pay levels for the positions vary by employer and by the requirements of the position.
Position openings range from entry level to those that require specialized skills and/or advanced degrees. Some of the jobs in the program are short-term and others are considered permanent. The jobs to be filled are from a wide variety of employers from the public sector, non-profit as well as private companies.
If you think you might be qualified for this program and you are interested in full-time employment, contact your local One-Stop Career Center in Blountstown (850.674.5088), Chipley (850.638.6089) or Marianna (850.718.0326) for more information or to set up an appointment.
Below is a sliding scale income chart that shows how much an individual can make and be qualified for employment under this program. Income levels are determined using only the past thirty days of total family income. Williams said the usage of only the past thirty days is key for many individuals.
“A lot of families have experienced job loss and the fact that we are looking at thirty days of wages means it really doesn’t matter how much you made last year,” Williams said. “We strongly encourage anyone interested in a job that thinks they may be qualified to come into their local One-Stop Center.”
