Yellowstone National Park Topic of Friends

Local resident Lucinda Simonson was the guest speaker at the March 5th meeting of 'Friends of the Library' where she highlighted her working visits to Yellowstone National Park.

Wednesday March 7th, 2007

For the past three years Cindy has spent her summers working at and investigating the property at the national park.

She said there are a number of jobs at the park available to retirees, teachers and college students from all over. While they work five days a week, they have two days each week available for sightseeing and enjoying the park, and Cindy said, "There's a lot of park to see." She said she has her favorite places to stay, but tries to see something new every year on her off days..

A relative newcomer to working the park, Cindy said one woman has been working their for 18 years and just celebrated her 80th birthday.

Lodging at Yellowstone National Park is handled by Xanterra Parks & Resorts, the firm that employees Cindy and others working there. Xanterra said employees must be 18 years of age to live and work in the National Parks due to housing facility regulations. And, they report that at times the work can be hard and demanding.

A wide range of accommodations are available in the Yellowstone area.  Lodging inside Yellowstone National Park is seasonal and the reservations fill up in advance.  A lot of  visitors make the most out of their trips by planning what they want it see that day and resting over in one of the nearby gateway communities for the evening. This method of sightseeing is recommended to make the most out what the park has to offer.

Cindy displayed the map to the right and talked about some of the areas shown there.
