Chipola Players Moving On To Division 1

Eight members of Chipola College’s state championship basketball team have signed scholarships with Division 1 colleges.

            MARIANNA—NJCAA Player of the Year Casey Mitchell (6’5) of Savannah, Ga., has signed West Virginia University. Mitchell also earned Panhandle and FCCAA Player of the Year honors. 

 

            Torye Pelham (6’6) of Nashville, TN, and Gary Flowers (6’8) of Dallas, TX, have signed with Southern Mississippi. They will join their former Chipola coach Greg Heiar who recently took an assistant coaching job at Southern Miss. 

 

            Justin Brownlee (6’7) of Tifton, GA, will play at St. Johns University. Trevor Deloach (6’4) of Saluda, SC has signed with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Josh Sain (6’6) of Jackson, TN, will play with Tennessee State University. Jeremy Jacob (6’8) of Baton Rouge, LA and Malcolm Armstead (6’0) of Florence, AL, both signed with the University of Oregon.

 

            Chipola had eight players on the All-Panhandle Conference team: Flowers, Sain, Armstead, Pelham, Jacob, Brownlee, Mitchell and Jon Kreft.

 

Four Indians—Brownlee, Jacob, Flowers and Mitchell—made the FCAA All-Tournament team. Chipola finished 3rd in the National Tournament with a 34–2 record.
